When I am not snapping pics and writing paragraphs, I direct a terrific adult education program called Free Minds. We are a part of the affordable housing nonprofit Foundation Communities. One great story about our work can be found in The Alcalde, “Minds On Fire.” You might also check out the Clemente Course In the Humanities, a national coalition of programs offering humanities education to adults who have faced barriers to college and a model for Free Minds.
The world is full of great places to engage in regular creative practices. Two that I love are:
I follow some great writers and things writerly online:
Charlotte Gullick: The Spectacular Vernacular
I’m also devoted to food blogs. Here are a few I’ve followed for years:
101 Cookbooks (I come here for virtue)
Chocolate and Zucchini (from Paris)
Gluten Free Girl (that girl can write)
Joy the Baker (I come here to escape virtue)
Nom Nom Paleo (personality in spades)
Smitten Kitchen (chocolate financiers! coconut tapioca! pickled cabbage!)
The Clothes Make the Girl (I come back for the spiced nuts)
